# Vaults & Local-first

A Vault is a local folder where Bentowise stores your content.

A Vault can contain:

* Boards
* Images
* File attachments
* Other local resources managed by Bentowise

These files live in your own file system. They do not need to be stored in a Bentowise cloud account.

## Local-first

Because a Vault is simply a local folder, you can use the third-party sync tool of your choice to keep it available across multiple devices.

For example, you can place a Vault inside a cloud drive or file-sync folder you already use.

**You decide where your files are stored, synced, and backed up.**

A Vault stores the local data and resources managed by Bentowise.

If a Block points to a remote webpage, online video, or another internet resource, Bentowise stores the link and related information. **The remote content itself is not necessarily saved inside the Vault.**
