File directives let external files control how their linked blocks appear in Bentowise. Add them using HTML comments in the source file.

Available directives

Additional directives will be documented here as they become available.

File color

Place this declaration on the first non-empty line of your file:
Supported values: default, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Use one declaration per file, with an unquoted color name. Names are case-insensitive; custom colors and HEX codes are not supported.

How it works

  • Linked blocks follow the file’s color by default and update when Bentowise refreshes the file.
  • Use Follow file color in the block’s details panel to enable or disable following.
  • Choosing a color manually disables following. Your manual color is preserved.
  • Removing the declaration or using an invalid value restores the saved manual color.
  • default selects Bentowise’s default theme; it does not disable following.
The declaration is hidden from the preview but remains in the source file and copied original text. Bentowise does not rewrite the file when you change a block’s color settings.

Workflow example

You or an AI tool might use yellow for drafts and green for reviewed material. These meanings are yours to define—Bentowise only applies the declared color.
